Aleksandre Dimitrenko will face Yaroslav Zavorotny for the vacant EBU heavyweight title July 31 in Hamburg. Both men are from Ukraine. Zavorotny holds the EE-EU title but is a rather unknown force. The winner have Audley Harrison as mandatory challenger. Russian promoter German Titov won purse bids to stage Dimitrenko vs Denis Bahktov with a grand, perhaps too grand, offer for 260 000 EUR but is now unable to stage the fight and Dimitrenko vs Zavorotny was made on short notice. Zavorotny in his turn was in training for a defence of his title August 21 in Spain that was postponed. Also on this Universum bill, the last with ZDF as network partner, is Juan Carlos Gomez, who in another surprising move have left Arena and is now back with Universum. Words now fly back and forth on who has done what and who owes who money. Inside the ropes the now 36-year old Cuban is worlclass, as a cruiser he´s probably an alltime great, but his erratic lifestyle have pretty much cost him his career as a heavyweight.
Lolenga Mock´s defence of the EU supermiddle title against Roberto Santos August 21 in Benidorm, Spain, is again postponed or off completely due to an injury to Santos.
Zavorotny
Former WBO lightheavy and WBC cruiser champ Zsolt Erdei is now a free agent after spending his entire professional boxing career with Universum. What´s next for Zsolt isn´t known but he relinquished his position as mandatory challenger for EBU lightheavy champ Nathan Cleverly.
WBC cruiser champ Krzystof Wlodarczyk defends the title September 25 in Warzaw, Poland, with Jason Robinson as opponent. Bullit Knockout promotes the show.
